I can't fight against them, and I can't play with them. I've been playing Wesnoth for 15 years, and I just cannot figure these boney bastards out. I lose every time I play *as* them, and I lose every time I play *against* them. Yet on the occasions where I try them out, I can never seem to make them successful with the same kind of rushdown strategy I see the AI and other players use. I lose against them every time I play multiplayer. Then they tank whatever I throw at them, maybe lose some expendable units if I'm very lucky, and repeat the same thing next turn. They don't do anything but charge straight at me and bury me under a tide of bone. They don't go after villages, they don't bother with flanking, they barely care about the terrain. They take minimal damage in return, and when they run out of units to attack with, they end their turn.
Battle for wesnoth turning off debug mode full#
What the undead will do on any turn, in my experience, is they will rush at a single unit, cluster around it, and drop it from full health to zero, then use their remaining units to pick off a few wounded stragglers of mine who were injured while trying to push home an attack on my last turn. It's frustrating and annoying to go up against, and I can't figure out any counterplay other than to spam units with fire and impact damage and then buckle down for a war of attrition where I lose all my high-level units and have to start over on my army from the ground up in the next scenario. I just don't find it fun to go up against them, because despite knowing exactly what they're going to do on any given turn, I have no way of stopping it. And it's not just that their units feel about twice as tough as equivalent units from any other faction - though they do. It's not just that they're hard to fight against - though they are. I will use the debug menu to skip any scenario in a campaign that involves them.
